All you need to do is brush the coat once a week to get rid of dead hair and also to keep the hair shiny. Brushing once a week also helps you to take notice if your dog has any bumps or lumps. It also helps to make a connection between you and your dog as dachshunds love all that attention. Though small haired dachshunds are likely to shed a lot. (See causes of shedding in dachshunds)
